Weekly Q&A: How to 'magnetize' staff nurses
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, July 5, 2005
This week, a reader asks for some techniques to convey ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® designation to staff nurses. Read the response below from our advisor, Janet Cahill, RN, BSN, MBA, director of professional practice and development at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.
Q: How do you convey ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® (MRP) designation to staff nurses?
A: There are many different methods of communicating the MRP message within your organization. At Northwestern Memorial Hospital, we use e-mail communication, our professional development Web site, flyers, posters, the hospital newsletter, Connections and the nursing newsletter, Nursing Now, as ways to keep the staff nurses aware of all the latest developments and progress made on our timeline.
MRP bulletin boards are in all of the lounges on the various nursing units and each month, we post new information and MRP-related articles for staff nurses to review. Recently we constructed an MRP icon on the hospital Web site, where any employee can ask questions about the MRP process. However, our most popular events are MRP fairs where food, prizes, and music are wonderful ways to encourage all employees to come and find out what designation is all about.
