Data-collection tip to save time

Don't let the data collection requirements for ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® designation intimidate you or your staff. Many facilities who have already achieved designation developed best practices for the often cumbersome process of gathering data. Here's an idea to help you collect information at your facility:
Build the specific data-collection fields into your collection tools or software. Having the fields already in your collection tool will save you hours of pouring over charts to collect certain data variables, such as whether a staff member witnessed a patient fall and when the fall occurred, says Laura Caramanica, RN, PhD, vice president of nursing at Hartford (CT) Hosptial.
