Five questions you should know before your site visit(s)

HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, July 5, 2005

Appraisers will interview staff nurses during the site visit. Staff nurses generally are very excited to talk about the rewarding experience of the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® journey and enjoy sharing examples of excellence in nursing care. The following are examples of the types of questions that appraisers might ask during the site visit:

  1. Has the CNE been an advocate for nurses?
  2. Does the formal structure indicate nurse participation at all levels in the development of the budget for the nursing system?
  3. What is the professional staff nurse-to-patient ratio at this time?
  4. Is input from peers incorporated into evaluations of fellow nurses?
  5. Are there opportunities for flexible/modified schedules?
Editor's note: The best practice above is from HCPro's book, HCPro's Guide to Assessing, Pursuing, and Achieving Excellence in the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®.
