Project coordinators: Saturate yourself with information
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, July 12, 2005
One of the most important steps for ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® (MRP) project coordinators early in the planning phase is to saturate themselves with information, says Barbara Wadsworth, RN, MSN, MBA, CNAA, BC, administrative nurse director at Abington Memorial Hospital in Abington, PA. Regardless of the healthcare setting, several resources are critical to the coordinator's ability to guide an organization through the process. To embark on the journey successfully, Wadsworth advises coordinators to
- purchase the current Magnet Recognition Program® application manual (visit the ANCC's Web site for more information)
- search the Internet for MRP-related books/journals/articles
- find a "MRP buddy" (a contact from a designated facility)
- attend MRP conferences and seminars
This type of early preparation will help coordinators navigate through roadblocks that might pop up unexpectedly, Wadsworth says.
