Site visit focused on staff, not management at new designated hospital
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, August 2, 2005
Alegent Health Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs (IA) recently earned ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® status. After passing their application phase-in which two appraisers reviewed five, three-ring binders-Mercy underwent a two-day site survey. According to a hospital official, the appraisers' main goal during their March visit was to verify the written application-focusing on staff nurses at the point-of-care rather than managers and administrators. They invited individual staff to breakfast and lunch without managers. They also spoke with physicians and patients, said another official. Mercy began the application process 2.5 years ago.
