Secure staff buy-in for organizational success
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, May 3, 2005
CNOs will struggle if they simply announce the plan to pursue ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® designation without explaining what the award means. They must offer staff a chance to weigh the advantages of going after the designation, says Karen Cox, RN, PhD, CNAA, senior vice president of patient care services at Children's Mercy Hospital and Clinics in Kansas City, MO.
Initially, Cox dealt with some doubtful staff who, after having a chance to question the reasoning behind such a project, became the most diligent workers and biggest supporters of the effort. Organizations that successfully secure buy-in ensure that the entire facility is working toward a common goal: Creating a culture of excellence.
