Over 500 students graduate this week from 45 different nursing schools in the Delaware Valley, including the District 1199C Training and Upgrading Fund's Practical Nursing Program. The majority of the graduates are students from economically and educationally disadvantaged circumstances. The Training Fund-a partnership of District 1199C and 59 area healthcare employers-provides financial and academic support to prepare these future healthcare providers for admission into nursing and allied health programs. The graduates include healthcare workers, immigrants, and minorities who successfully completed various healthcare training programs in fields that have severe worker shortages throughout the Delaware Valley. The program was funded through a $3 million U.S. Department of Labor grant.
