Question: You keep forgetting your new password, so you save it in a document titled "password" on your desktop. Is this an acceptable practice?
Answer: No. Do not keep your password on your computer or anywhere obvious and easily accessible. If someone finds your password and logs on as you, you will be held accountable for anything that happens as a result. If you have trouble coming up with a good password that you can remember, try the previous tips or ask your ISO for help.
Editor's note: The above case is from the online course "HIPAA Series: Information security for the physician practice staff." For more information on this and other HIPAA courses, go to www.hcprofessor.com and click on HIPAA.
