Officials in St. Paul, MN, are asking the state legislature for $4 million to create a facility to provide training for healthcare workers. According to the Legal Ledger, supporters believe that the proposal will help recruit people to healthcare field and improve educational opportunities. The planning committee also claims that the center will aid in retaining professionals in the field, as one of the plan's components is to offer continuing education. The Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system, educating 78 percent of nursing
graduates statewide, would be a partner in the learning center. The planning committee advocates that building the facility in close proximity to the city's hospitals would make education easily accessible for employees and would help lower training costs. The price tag on the whole project is estimated at $23 million, but officials are only requesting a portion of the cost at this point.
