A woman arrested for posing as a nurse is now in custody after defying orders to not leave the country. Emily Barber of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, was scheduled to appear in court this week but was being held for disobeying the order by purchasing a plane ticket. Her lawyers appeared in court on her behalf.

Barber was arrested in March on charges of identity theft and impersonating a licensed professional after the Knox County Sheriff's Office received a report that she was working as a nurse at Summit View of Farragut, a post-acute care center. Barber allegedly claimed to have bachelor of science degrees from Western Governors University and Johns Hopkins University, as well as an associate’s degree in nursing from Pellissippi State Community College.

In reality, Barber only held an assistant nursing license certificate from the Tennessee College of Applied Technology but was using the unique nursing license number of a registered nurse working in North Carolina. The nurse, who is a graduate of East Tennessee State University, did not know Barber nor that her nursing license number was being used.

Barber’s next court date is scheduled for July 2.
