News spotlight: Medical error suicide emphasizes importance of clinician support

A nurse who administered a medication overdose to a child, causing that child to die, took her own life a month later, causing heightened attention to how hospitals deal with clinicians after medical errors.

Research shows that one in three hospitalized patients experience a medical error, causing even more of a need for education on how errors occur, and open and honest communication on reporting near misses.
