Inside scoop from our experts: Nurse councils for the OR
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, December 13, 2010
This week’s question about nurse councils for the operating room (OR) comes from a discussion on JourneyTalk.
Q: Would anyone be willing to share success strategies for developing and sustaining councils for the OR? They are so challenged with variability with surgery schedules that it is hard to find consistent times to meet. Also ideas on how to draw the chair of the OR council into active participation/discussions at the hospital level council meetings as so much of the agenda topics are related to inpatient services.
A: In the OR we have designated meeting times for each council. We are pretty good about getting most if not all members to each meeting. They are usually at 2 pm and we use our lunch shifts to provide the relief. We also have the Wednesday meetings to share back information with all staff and council reports. We also highly utilize Sharepoint site in surgery for minutes of each council.
Editor's note: On JourneyTalk you can network with your peers, discuss the new manual, share your helpful tips, and get advice on how to meet the program's expectations.
