Inside the program: Garnering feedback
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, November 22, 2010
Suppose you were taking a class where none of your tests, papers, or projects was ever returned to you. How would you know if you needed to put more time into the course and study harder or if you were getting the important concepts?
What about saving for retirement? Most of us have some money deducted from our paychecks every month that is automatically deposited into our retirement account. Are we saving enough? If we don’t check at least annually and make projections forward, how we you know if we have enough to retire at the desired age?
Without feedback, you have no idea that you need to change your behavior so you can be more effective and meet your goals. You’re operating in a vacuum and making assumptions that all is well. And all might be well, but you don’t know. Not knowing is stressful and does not motivate you to put forth effort toward achieving goals.
