As part of the shared governance model at Beaufort (SC) Memorial Hospital (BMH), the nursing department was challenged to identify and implement a care delivery model that speaks to competency issues in relation to the complex and dynamic needs of patients. The AACN Synergy Model, which incorporates Benner’s novice to expert model (Benner, 1984), was chosen since it would help capture various levels of nursing competencies in relation to patient needs.
