What is it you do? Explaining the role of staff development

Most of us have faced this situation, but few of us have been able to come up with a quick response that shows the questioner we are invaluable members of the healthcare team. The term “critical care nurse,” for example, brings to mind nurses in white lab coats with stethoscopes around their necks working in emergency situations and saving the lives of critically ill patients. Few in healthcare question what critical care nurses do. I would like to see staff development specialists receive respect and acknowledgment for the services they provide.
