Inside scoop from our experts: Developing a budget
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, July 1, 2010
This week’s question on staff education comes from a discussion on JourneyTalk. Kimberly Bertini, RN, MRP coordinator with the Cancer Treatment Centers of America at Midwestern Regional Medical Center in Zion, IL, provides some insight.
Q: I am seeking help for an example of an MRP budget. I have some data already from the ANCC website but we are also looking for any other items to include. We are on the path of submitting our application in the fall. Any help would be appreciated.
A: A couple of items to keep in mind would be:
- Full-time employee non-productive hours for your nursing staff to work on councils/projects
- Outside experts/consultants for continuing education
- A budget line item for RNs to be a part of professional organizations
- A budget line item for national certifications for RNs
- Food/space/prizes for retreats, contests, town halls, grand rounds
Editor's note: On JourneyTalk you can network with your peers, discuss the new manual, share your helpful tips, and get advice on how to meet the program's expectations. Become a member of JourneyTalk when you subscribe to HCPro's Resource Center for the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®.
