In the news: FL struggles to keep nurses, despite competitive wages

Stressed Out Nurses Weekly, June 14, 2010

Despite high unemployment rates, fully attended nursing schools, and competitive wages, healthcare facilities in southern Florida, specifically in Palm Beach County, cannot keep their nurses for very long, reports The Palm Beach Post.

In many areas of the country, including Minnesota, New York, New Jersey, and California, new nursing graduates are struggling to find positions, but a study by the Florida Center for Nursing found that for every five registered nurses Florida added in the last two years, it has lost three.

Efforts to improve retention are being implemented by the Palm County Foundation, including providing training for managers.
