Physicians and nurses of Olive View-UCLA Medical Center in Sylmar, CA, gathered outside on May 19 arguing against the allegations of substandard care at the county hospital.
The complaints were brought to the attention of the hospital's accreditation agency, saying staff members on the neonatal intensive care unit gave each other manicures and additional cosmetic services during work hours.Since these statements, the chief of operations for the county's Department of Health Services has placed two staff members on paid leave, but has said no patients were harmed and no staffing changes have been made in response to the allegations.
During the last three years, Olive View has received four penalties for medical errors that harmed or endangered patients.
