Rural Canadian hospitals share a common problem with their U.S. counterparts: Retention of health professionals. Looking for ways to improve retention of quality nursing staff, a new study has examined ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® (MRP) designated hospitals and the effect designation has on nurse satisfaction and retention.
The study finds that while management support and nurse/manager relations ranked high on nurse satisfaction requirements, nurses participating in the survey had a low opinion of management at their current facilities. They also ranked the ability to work professionally and autonomously high among factors contributing to job satisfaction.
