Inside scoop from our experts: Coordinating council charters
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, April 26, 2010
This week’s question on staff education comes from a discussion on JourneyTalk. Meryl Montgomery, RN, MSN, nursing QI coordinator with the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon, provides some insight.
Q: Would anyone share their charter for the coordinating councils?
A: Purposes of our Nurse Executive Council (NEC) are as follows:
Nursing Executive Council
- Provide oversight for all Council activities
- Assess progress toward/completion of nursing strategic goals
- Develop and implement action plans to achieve nursing goals, demonstrating innovation, sustainability, participation, acculturation, and progressive outcomes
- Assist in the coordination of consultation visits to and from other hospitals
- Participate in the promotion and recognition of the nursing profession
- Review/approve magnet educational programs
- Serve as the information hub for hospitalwide nursing initiatives and activities
- Along with Operations Council, monitor compliance with MRP/ shared governance processes and outcomes and develop strategies for improvements
- Approve standards, policies, and procedures from other councils
Editor's note: On JourneyTalk you can network with your peers, discuss the new manual, share your helpful tips, and get advice on how to meet the program's expectations. Become a member of JourneyTalk when you subscribe to HCPro's Resource Center for the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®.
