In the news: ICN expresses concerns about YN Women?s Agency
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, April 12, 2010
The International Council of Nurses (ICN) has released a statement outlining its concerns regarding a comprehensive proposal for the new Women’s Agency issued by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. The ICN identified three key concerns about the proposal:
- Will the agency be staffed in every country with the authority and expertise to carry out targeted programs?
- Will the Women’s Agency have sufficient budget to carry out targeted programs in every country>
- When and how will the new Under Secretary-General be chosen?
“Unfortunately, the plan presented by the Secretary General in January this year does not propose a structure nor the required budget of at least initial funding of US$1billion,” stated David Benton, ICN’s CEO, in an official statement.
