Crash cart checks: Over-interpretation can lead to citation

Technically, no standard or EP mandates that an organization check crash carts. Logically, of course, we know crash carts must be checked to ensure that necessary supplies are readily available and lifesaving equipment is in proper working order. Joint Commission (formerly JCAHO) standards require that emergency medications, supplies, and equipment are readily available. What actions are necessary, for example, to ensure that crash carts are adequately maintained?
