Inside the program: Learning styles and teaching methods
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, January 25, 2010
You need to assess the effectiveness of teaching methods in conjunction with various learning styles and generational differences. Answer these questions as part of your ongoing orientation assessment:
- How are the needs of orientees with different learning styles addressed? Do you include strategies that enhance visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learners’ orientation experience?
- What types of teaching methods do you employ? How effective are your blended learning strategies? Do you incorporate distance-learning strategies?
- How do you address the needs of learners with specific generational characteristics?
- How do you address the needs of a maturing RN work force? Have you considered the needs of this population when planning and implementing orientation?
