In the know: Study groups are key to success in nursing school

Stressed Out Nurses Weekly, December 7, 2009

Study groups are the backbone of nursing school. With study groups, you can cover more material faster by evenly distributing a heavy workload. A good study group offers you the chance to develop and improve teamwork, leadership, teaching, and problem-solving skills. Nursing school, after all, should be a cooperative experience, not a competitive one.

For a study group to be effective, follow these guidelines:

  • Limit the size of the group to four or five people
  • Meet at the same time on a regular basis
  • Agree on work time—socializing and fun should occur at the end of the meeting
