To celebrate the anniversary of their 2006 designation as an ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® recipient, each year nurses at the University of Virginia Health System in Charlottesville pick a community service project to work on. This year, the nurses decided to collect and distribute teen care kits, which include full-size bottles of toiletries such as shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel.
The project was chosen because the nurses decided that local teens need to feel supported and hear a positive message during the tough economic times in the community. The care kits include a handwritten note from each nurse who donated a kit.
