Nurses at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in southwest Florida—designated as an ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® recipient in 2003—are carrying iPhones with a smart new application designed to help them communicate with patients and peers at the touch of a button.
The IPhones have been equipped with a Voalte app (Voalte is derived from voice, alarm, and text) with which they can send and receive text messages, make voice calls, and receive updates from patient's alarms, which helps them respond faster to patient needs.
The new technology has resulted in a 78% reduction in overhead paging, greatly increasing the peace and quiet for patients.
