Quick question for staff nurses: Discussing professional accomplishments
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, October 13, 2009
One of the scariest aspects of a site visit for staff nurses is the prospect that appraisers will ask them a question they can't answer. Help nurses get over their fears by practicing responses to a variety of questions about the journey and what designation means to them. This will help them feel more confident that they can answer any question posed on the real site visit.
Here is this month's quick question for staff nurses:
Practice question: How are you recognized on your unit, within the nursing department, and within the facility for things such as obtaining a formal degree or completing national certification or clinical advancement programs?
Hint: The nurse manager may post a notice on a unit bulletin board that acknowledges a nurse who has achieved a specialty certification. Or nursing departments may recognize accomplishments in a 'bragging corner' or nursing newsletter.
