A nurse at Broward General Medical Center (BGMC) in Fort Lauderdale, FL, has been reusing saline bags and catheter tubing on more than one patient during cardiac chemical stress tests over the past five years, reports HealthLeaders Media.
According to hospital officials, the nurse, Qui Lan, 59, admitted that she knew such practice was a violation of hospital policy. Lan resigned a month ago after she was confronted by hospital officials. BGMC has asked 1,851 patients to be tested for possible infections such as HIV and hepatitis.
Fort Lauderdale police are in the midst of determining whether Lan should receive criminal charges.
