Inside the program: Developing a theme for your written documentation
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, September 22, 2009
One strategy for developing the theme for your written documentation is to look at your mission, vision, and values, and ask the following questions:
- What are you known for in the community?
- What special awards has your organization received?
- How do your quality outcomes compare to other organizations?
- Are there specific positive themes that have emerged from your patient satisfaction survey results?
- Why do physicians bring their patients to your hospital?
- What do patients say about your care?
- Why do nurses like working at your organization and what makes them stay?
A thorough examination of the organization's values usually helps to set one or more themes for your written documentation. Once the themes are established, you'll have an easier time selecting the evidence.
