Ask the expert: Focus on unique characteristics in the written documentation
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, September 15, 2009
This week, a reader asks about how to showcase an organization's special characteristics in the written documentation. Read the response from advisor Katherine Riley, MSN, RN, NE-BC, from Bennington, VT.
Q: We have just started the journey toward ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® (MRP) designation. How can I showcase the special things that about my organization that make it unique?
A: All organizations have unique characteristics. In your documentation, use your evidence to demonstrate to the appraisers what these unique characteristics are.
Remember, designation is not an award for ordinary organizations; it recognizes excellence in nursing and patient care services, and the 5 Model Components are focused on superior performance. You must clearly demonstrate that you not only have met the criteria for designation, but that you are an extraordinary organization that is worthy of this prestigious award.
