In the mix: New nurses union will be 150,000 RNs strong

Stressed Out Nurses Weekly, September 7, 2009

Three major nurses’ organizations will be combining to form a new organization newly named National Nurses United, reports the San Francisco Business Times. The California Nurses Association/National Nurses Organizing Committee, the United American Nurses, and the Massachusetts Nurses Association are merging to form a membership that will be 150,000 strong.

A founding convention will be held in December in Scottsdale, AZ, according to the Times. Leaders of the group say the union will be the “largest registered nurses union and professional association in U.S. history.” In mid-February, the three organizations announced plans to merge and become an AFL-CIO affiliate.

Were you a member of the three organizations now becoming one? What do you think of the merge?
