A new bill proposed in the Ohio Senate would require nurses, physicians, pharmacists, and most healthcare professionals to undergo cultural competency training, reports MedCityNews.com.
California, New Jersey and Washington have approved similar measures in recent years, but the Ohio State Medical Association opposed the legislation with the view that states should not specify content to be required and that such courses are already readily available, according to MedCityNews.com
Cultural competency training teaches students about different cultures and backgrounds in the hopes that this understanding will help minorities receive better care, narrowing the current disparities in healthcare.
