The image of nursing is a topic that is central to organizations seeking, or already designated with, ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® (MRP) status. Issues of image, professionalism, autonomy, and excellence are embedded throughout the 5 Model Components, but are particularly relevant to Component II: Structural Empowerment and Component III: Exemplary Professional Practice.
So it was no surprise that nurses from MRP facilities made up a significant percentage of the nominations for the HCPro 2009 Nursing Image Awards. We received close to 200 nominations for the two categories, and all the candidates exemplified professionalism and compassion that made them stand out to their peers.
