The fourth domain in the 2008 ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® Application Manual is Component IV: New knowledge, innovations, and improvements. This component embraces the quest for continuous quality improvement. An ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® (MRP) organization sees itself as a partner in the larger healthcare delivery system. Discoveries regarding improvement in patient care are identified through literature searches, empirical studies, and participation with other professionals. Knowledge is shared formally through journals and professional presentations, as well as through informal, local meetings among professionals and unit-to-unit discussions within the same organization.

MRP applicants on initial submission demonstrate how they identified patient care issues that needed improvement, how they addressed the issue, and what results they achieved. Once these underlying strategies are in place, organizations applying for redesignation will report data from longer-term analyses, including trending and tracking of outcomes, how models were adjusted based on findings, and how they compare to benchmarks from exemplar organizations.
