All employees, not just patient care providers, need to comprehend how their roles and responsibilities affect organizational performance. Make Joint Commission progress reports part of staff meetings with an emphasis on how individual employee behaviors contribute to the success (or lack of success) of a healthcare organization.
Next, empower employees at the staff level. Most organizations have one or two people at the management or administrative level who carry the overall responsibility for assessing and maintaining compliance. These individuals often form a committee to help with this enormous responsibility.
