Just-in-time training: Tips for facilitating inservice education

Inservice education necessitates a quick response to changes in the work environment. The implementation of this type of education poses a special challenge for staff development specialists.
The need for inservice education often occurs unexpectedly, allowing little time for program planning and implementation, and often requires swift demonstration and validation of competency.
Two of the most common training situations that trigger the need for inservice education are application of new policies, procedures, and/or protocols and the need to use unfamiliar new equipment.
