Inside the program: What designation means to nursing
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, July 28, 2009
When preparing for your site visit, it's important that nurses can articulate what ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® designation means to them and to the organization.
Send a message to nurses to remind them that they represent the best of nursing, and together, everyone represents the best of nursing services. Discuss the benefits of nursing in your organization:
- Stability in regard to whom you work with every day to provide care and who your manager/supervisor is; this stability leads to less turnover in staff and management positions
- Community recognition for being the best at what you do
- Systems and processes in the workplace that value the individual nurse
- High-quality continuing education programs/inservices and a professional development program
- An environment that recognizes and emphasizes your role in quality improvement
