Inside the program: Create an educational plan to prepare for the journey
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, July 7, 2009
Educators tell us that information should be presented in at least three different ways to reach everyone and make it stick. When you first start to educate the organization about your journey to ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® (MRP) designation, first consider all possibilities. Then create your own plan, which can be tailored to suit your organization's culture and your audience.
The following tips may help get your creative planning juices flowing:
- Review your action plan and identify the issues that will require some level of education. List the target groups for each topic to give you an idea of the extent of your challenge.
- Ask managers and staff members to determine what approaches they think will help them.
- Before you go too far into your preparation plan, verify the budget available for purchasing training materials, offering incentives, or using outside educators.
- Review the other projects that will compete for time during the period of MRP education.
- Enlist the assistance of the marketing or public relations department in preparing a campaign focused on designation.
- Consider forming an advisory team with some of the organization's talented educators. This group will be a great sounding board for your ideas. They also can serve as champions for designation within the organization.
