News brief: First hospital in the Middle East earns designation honor
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, June 30, 2009
The American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC)—located in Lebanon—last week became the first hospital in the Middle East, and only the third international hospital, to earn the prestigious ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® (MRP) designation.
The hospital began its MRP quest after rebuilding its nursing services following Lebanon's destructive 15-year civil war. The hospital focused on quality improvement efforts that raised the level of nursing excellence to the point that it began its MRP journey in 2003.
"I decided to embark on the [MRP] journey the moment I recognized that it would raise the bar of quality to a level of excellence for our patients who deserve the very best," said Assistant Hospital Director for Patient Care Services Gladys Mouro, who spearheaded the six-year effort.
