Inside the program: Assess organizational readiness for pursuing the journey
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, June 30, 2009
The person who performs the gap analysis to determine the organization's readiness for pursuing ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® (MRP) designation varies among organizations. It can be done by the CNO in collaboration with the nursing leadership team, the project coordinator/director, or an outside consultant. In some organizations, the steering committee is formed early in the process to evaluate organizational readiness, make recommendations for improvements, and collaborate on the MRP timeline.
As you start the gap analysis, use the following checklist to assess organizational readiness:
- Review the ANCC Web site for the most current eligibility requirements
- Review RN turnover and vacancy rate and benchmark to national data
- Verify the percent of RNs in your organization that have achieved certification
- Review current employee, patient, and physician satisfaction surveys.
- Develop a presentation for senior leadership, members of the medical staff, and the hospital board to obtain their support for the project and perspective on organizational readiness
