Hospitals across the country are engaged in research about how they can assist patients with making decisions about their healthcare. These efforts are usually focused on early stage diseases, such as breast cancer, when patients are inundated with a variety of options and need help establishing priorities and treatments.
Some hospitals have turned to electronic resources to help patients with decision making. Health Dialog offers a variety of videos on topics ranging from cancer screenings to treatment choices for coronary hearth disease. The service is offered to newly-diagnosed breast cancer patients at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Another option is offered by the company NexCura, which allows patients to use the NexProfiler™ tool to generate individualized treatment options based on peer-reviewed clinical research.
