The Joint Commission Standard IC.02.04.01 relates to the administration of the influenza vaccine. The second element of this standard mandates that organizations educate staff and independent licensed practitioners about the influenza vaccine as well as about measures to control and prevent the spread and contraction of the disease, how it is diagnosed and transmitted, and the effects of the disease itself.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) Web site has a huge amount of training materials available for education use. You can download posters, fact sheets, information about control and prevention, diagnosis and transmission, effect of the disease, vaccination recommendations, and potential vaccine side effects. Materials are available in both English and Spanish and some are specifically directed at children.
