HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, May 19, 2009
Staff members at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu, HI, had something extra to celebrate during Nurses Week this year. In April, the hospital became the first in the state to achieve ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® status.
After successfully completing the written documentation and a three-day site visit from ANCC appraisers, the staff at Queen’s received notice that they had earned the nursing excellence award.. According to the hospital’s president, Art Ushijima, the nursing award couldn’t have come at a more perfect time as the hospital is also preparing to celebrate its 150th anniversary.
Six other hospitals also achieved initial designation or redesignation in April. In total, there are 332 facilities that have achieved the nursing excellence award. The following four are celebrating first-time designation:
- Thomas Jefferson University Hospital Center City Campus, Philadelphia, PA
- United Hospital, St. Paul, MN
- Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, Nedlands, Western Australia
- Palomar Pomerado Health, San Diego, CA
And two hospitals are celebrating redesignation:
