Inside best practice: Serve a treat as a sweet reminder
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, May 19, 2009
It’s easy to grab people’s attention with free food—especially chocolate. But sometimes the message of the gift can be more important than the taste.
Customizing the wrappers of candy bars or popcorn bags and distributing them at the beginning of your ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® (MRP) journey—or close to the site visit is a fun way to motivate staff nurses.
For example, as Abington (PA) Memorial Hospital—an MRP redesignation recipient in 2008—prepared for its initial site visit, members of the MRP staff advisory team had a special message printed on chocolate bars. The message read, “Our MRP survey is next week!” Team members distributed them to all areas of the hospital. The candy bars not only grabbed everyone’s attention, but they served as a sweet reminder of the upcoming site visit.
