Inside the program: Create a timeline to help with designation success
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, May 12, 2009
One you have identified organizational readiness to pursue ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® (MRP) designation, set up a realistic timeline. Although the journey is exciting and rewarding, it can also become difficult, labor-intensive, and tedious. Therefore, set the date for the final submission of documents months after the initial application. The following is an example of a timeline from Aultman Health Foundation in Canton, OH—an MRP recipient in 2006.
- February-November 2003: Hired full time MRP coordinator and conducted gap analysis
- January-December 2004: Sent in initial application for intent to pursue and assembled writing team and content experts
- January-December 2005: Began writing the documents; mailed documents to appraisers; and conducted site visit
- April 2006: Notified of achievement of MRP designation
