Evidence-based practice (EBP) in staff development requires a continual analysis of healthcare practices. Such analysis necessitates that we develop a concise and efficient system of data collection. There are a huge number of sources from which data can be retrieved. Data are gathered from needs assessment, informal conversations, risk management and quality improvement data, and competency statements.
Look at your current programs for method of data collection delivery to staff and determine:
- How much of it is evidence-based?
- Where does the evidence comes from?
- How is the evidence used to improve your practice?
As you analyze each program, think about how you can use evidence to improve your products and services and show the value of staff development within your organization.
