Each month, The Staff Educator will feature suggestions for Joint Commission survey preparation. Let’s look at a standard that may not be deemed a high priority for educators, but that does require training.
Standard APR.09.02.01
Standard APR.09.02.01 deals with the reporting of safety or quality-of-care concerns to The Joint Commission (formerly JCAHO). According to the first two elements of performance:
- All staff members, including the medical staff, must be made aware that any employees, physicians, or ¬ others who provide care or services to patients may report to The Joint Commission if they are concerned about the safety or quality of care offered at the organization.
