What is evidence-based practice (EBP) in staff development? We all know that EBP in the clinical setting is the process of making clinical decisions based on the most current and valid research data available. As educators, we are often asked to teach concepts of EBP and to facilitate its implementation. Evidence-based staff development is the process of using best practice evidence to close the gap between actual staff development practice and identified best practices. But have we implemented EBP in our own specialty? In this economic climate of cutbacks and layoffs we must be able to provide the evidence that continuing education and training are directly linked to performance improvement and positive patient outcomes.
