Inside the program: Conquer the challenge of identifying nursing resources
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, March 17, 2009
As staff members at community hospitals begin writing narratives under Component III: Exemplary professional practice, a challenge may be identifying all resources available to staff and giving a representative example of how staff access these resources.
Work through this challenge by:
- Including community experts such as local college/university faculty, local business leaders, board members, etc., who share their expertise with staff.
- Describing how nursing staff use organizational resources such as medical librarians or data analysts.
- Hiring consultants from outside of the organization (e.g., leaders of local professional nursing organizations) to mentor or coach staff can bring enthusiasm to an organization.
- Describing the roles of organizational experts such as diabetic educators, education specialists, and staff who have attained the highest levels on the clinical ladder program.
