Healthcare hope may come in the form of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act President Barack Obama signed into law last week.
The $787 billion stimulus package grants $59 billion to healthcare, according to the Recovery Act's Web site, including $500 million for nursing and health professional training. The funds are intended boost the healthcare workforce, which would help meet the country's healthcare demands, as well as to relieve the pressure on millions of people who lost their jobs and health insurance due to the recession.
The bill will also protect the healthcare coverage of about 20 million people by temporarily raising the Federal Medical Assistance Percentage. This prevents cash-strapped states from reducing the numbers of people eligible for Medicaid and State Children's Health Insurance Plans.
